Aesthetic and exterior repairs are often overlooked and considered as unnecessary. What becomes, “I’ll handle it later” ends up as “I forgot that was even there.” It’s easier to dismiss a cosmetic flaw than it is to take the time and effort to fix the issue. Here are a few reasons why it’s critical to repair your vehicle after an accident, even if it’s only a minor fender bender:
A damaged bumper can worsen the severity of a future car accident.
Disregarding damages can increase the severity of a future car crash, which is why it is critical to repair or replace it. If you are hit from behind, the bumper absorbs some of the impact, and a structurally weak bumper can fail to absorb a more severe impact.
Once damaged, it will not be able to absorb the impact, causing more damage to the vehicle’s body and your passengers if you are hit. Timely repair or replacement allows it to function properly, which reduces the severity of future car accidents.
Damaged hooks can and will cause a loose bumper.
Another reason to repair a damaged bumper is that the hooks that fasten them to your vehicle may be structurally compromised. Even if you can’t see it, tiny cracks or chips on the hooks may have formed. If these damaged hooks are exposed to road vibrations while driving after the accident, they may break. When the hooks snap, your bumper will fall off and possibly collide with another vehicle on the road.
When you have a bumper replaced, the repair shop will also replace these hooks. This complete replacement of your bumper and its hooks eliminates their falling off in the middle of a trip.
Rust and corrosion may lead to severely reduced structural integrity.
Even the smallest dents or scuffs are unsightly, especially if they contain paint damage or a crack.
Over time, water can penetrate beneath the paint and reach the car’s unprotected metal, causing it to rust and oxidize. Rust is not only unsightly, but it also jeopardizes the structural integrity of your vehicle.
Reduction of your vehicle’s resale value.
The exterior condition of your vehicle has a significant impact on how much money you can get for it. If you intend to sell or trade in your car in the near future, you will want to get the most money for it. You have to ensure that every facet of your vehicle is in near-mint, or at the very least, serviceable condition.
Anchor Auto Body believes that safety comes first — and that is why we highly recommend that you have your fenders and bumpers repaired or replaced. Our team meticulously repairs these components and reconditions them to remove any dents, scratches, scrapes, or indentations.
