For car show quality results a clear coat is recommended. A clear coat will also protect the base from damaging sun rays, which can cause the paint to fade and become dull. If your paint has scratches, swirl marks, water spots, or other flaws, the clear coat will keep them from sinking into the base coat.
Remember that acrylic enamel is a high-gloss paint. Clear coat will also improve the glossy appearance of the color coat. Buyers may wish to forego purchasing the clear coat for projects (work trucks, used cars, etc.) where cost is a major concern.
