Los Altos, which is located in the center of the world-famous Silicon Valley, has tree-lined streets and a little town atmosphere. Located 40 miles south of San Francisco, it is a residential hamlet with seven minor retail districts. Small businesses, schools, libraries, and churches dot the seven-square-mile city.
The city is a general law city founded in 1952 with five elected council members who serve four-year terms. Every month on the second and fourth Tuesdays, the City Council meets. Appointed commissions and committees serve as advisors to the Council. The city manager, who is nominated by the council, is in charge of the city’s 130 employees’ financial and operational management.

History Museum
Beautiful fruit orchards formerly thrived in what is now known as Silicon Valley. The Los Altos History Museum, located amid one of the valley’s few remaining orchards, helps visitors comprehend the valley’s transformation from a large agricultural area to a modern, technology-oriented metropolis.
Windy Hill Preserve
In the 1960s, as the valley grew, local governments set aside approximately 10,000 acres of natural area as a preserve. The Windy Hill Preserve is a stunning 1,300-acre property blanketed in green grass. It’s also a great place to glide and sail kites. The preserve opens 30 minutes before sunrise and closes 30 minutes after dusk.
San Andreas Fault Trail
The Los Trancos Preserve has the San Andreas Fault Trail. This verdant 200-acre ranch in the Santa Cruz Mountains is an incredible site to learn about and visualize geology in California. The trail itself is a 1.5-mile self-guided circuit where tourists may learn about earthquake geography in California.
Farmers Market
This favorite among the locals Every Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the heart of Downtown Los Altos, the Farmer’s Market is a local favorite. At the busy market, local farmers and dealers offer their goods at a reasonable price. Customers can listen to live music and make crafts while shopping!
Hidden Villa Farm
The Hidden Villa Farm is a non-profit educational institution that uses the organic farm, community, and wilderness to educate tourists about social justice and the environment. In the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, the property spans over 1,600 acres of open area.
The Hidden Villa’s aim is to use the facility’s activities, legacy, and land to inspire a more sustainable and just future. Josephine and Frank Duveneck bought the land in 1924 and founded the Hidden Villa Farm as a place for introspection and debate.
Stage Company
The Los Altos Stage Company is a group of performers who perform classic theatrical skills and is a local favorite. The company has grown in recent years thanks to the strong support of the local community.
