Los Gatos is an affluent little town that you will like. On Sunday mornings, when it is cool and lively, we recommend visiting the Town Plaza area. Many locals come out with their dogs on Sundays between 8 and 12 a.m., enjoying the very nice Farmer’s Market and the many coffee shops, cafes, and retail businesses nearby. This brief walk can easily be extended another block or two in a variety of intriguing directions.

Start your day with a good breakfast and coffee
On Sunday mornings, the Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company is a popular site to see and be seen with your dog. It’s a few of stores west of Town Square’s Farmers Market. Another place to consider is Pedros. It serves a good $12 Sunday brunch that includes fresh American breakfast fare as well as good Mexican lunch and dessert items.
Los Gatos Cafe is another long-time neighborhood favorite for breakfast and brunch. Delicious meals, friendly service, and fair prices. The Apricot French Toast and the Crab Cakes Benedict are two of their specialties that we particularly enjoy. It’s a small, older, and charming town. Has a dining area in front (you can bring your well-behaved dog).
Shop Until You Drop
There are numerous stores throughout the city, including Old Town Center, which is located at 50 University Ave/Elm Street. The Gap, Banana Republic, Sur La Table Kitchen & Bath, and Borders are among the retailers in this newly remodeled shopping mall. Regional malls are smaller and snazzier. There is generally ample parking in front of the building or across the street.
You might also head to Domus Kitchen and Gift Shop in the downtown area, which is already 41 years old and is the place to go for “hard to find” essential kitchen gadgets and supplies at a lower price than Sur La Table or Williams & Sonoma. It’s a pleasant location to browse, and the staff is knowledgeable.

The Testarossa Winery is a nice old winery site and only a half mile walk from downtown and just a short walk up College Ave behind the Purple Onion Coffee Shop. The atmosphere is old, uncrowded and pleasant. They have wine tasting, a big stone cellar, and a good place to picnic on the outside patio.
In reality, Testarossa Winery is California’s fourth-oldest continuously functioning winery. It is located on the grounds of the famous Novitiate Winery, which was built in 1888. It was utilized by the Jesuits for church wines and to fund the seminary that still stands beside it. In the fall, novice students (noviates) used to pick grapes for the vineyard.
You can also go to the Farmers Market, which is small but one of the most appealing and entertaining farmers markets on the Peninsula due to the unique upmarket town around it. It is extremely popular among the locals.
Visit St. Joseph’s Hill Open Space Preserve, which includes lovely trails that lead to the summit of 1,253-foot St. Joseph’s Hill. Mountain bikes and leashed dogs are permitted.
